Always Ready
This photograph was taken during the king tides in January 2023. The conditions were the worst I’d ever experienced as a photographer. But the big waves and big weather were unforgettable. The light poked through the storm clouds for just a couple minutes. At that moment, a helicopter from U.S. Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment appeared from behind the rocks. The photograph makes me grateful for work of the Coast Guard, especially here on the Columbia River Bar, which is notoriously treacherous. I named the photograph after the Coast Guard motto “Semper Paratus,” which means “Always Ready.” Because they are.

Limited edition prints come signed and numbered, and they are shipped in a presentation box along with a certificate of authenticity.
